Job description

As the Technical Subcontract Manager for Combat Systems, you will be responsible for specifying, coordinating, and managing all technical activities associated with sub-contracted combat systems. This role encompasses both above-water and underwater sensor systems, weapons, command and control, and communication systems. You will oversee project definition, engineering, interfacing, installation, verification, and acceptance of combat systems in large-scale design and build projects. Your goal is to ensure the seamless integration of these systems into a cohesive naval combat suite for the ships developed, as well as any related land-based facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties as the Technical Subcontract Manager for Combat Systems will include:

  • Overseeing and coordinating multiple subcontractors and suppliers during both the preparation and execution phases of projects, focusing on short- and medium-term objectives.

  • Ensuring that all combat system products and services comply with relevant requirements and specifications, adhering to established schedules, quality standards, and budget constraints.

  • Taking ownership of integration activities for complex medium-value projects and managing associated subcontractors.

  • Organizing and participating in project reviews to ensure alignment and progress.

  • Coordinating project activities to guarantee the fulfillment of all deliverables and obligations from subcontractors.

  • Acting as the accepting party during key contractual milestones, tests, and trials, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Hardware Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).

  • Assisting the warranty authority with identified warranty issues.

  • Supporting proposal evaluations, technical assessments, and cost/price analyses.

  • Collaborating with the Combat System Integrator (CSI) in defining, establishing, and validating all relevant functional and physical interfaces.

Qualifications and Skills

To succeed as the Technical Subcontract Manager for Combat Systems, you should have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Over 5 years of experience in technical subcontract management, preferably within the naval or shipbuilding sector, working with international subcontractors.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with complex combat systems, ideally within the shipbuilding or naval industry.

  • Excellent communication skills, enabling you to build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proficient contract management skills, with a strong understanding of legal language and technical terminology.

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field.

  • Solid project management experience, with an ideal qualification in project management.

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Dutch and/or German is a plus, along with a willingness to learn.

  • Positive references, as a standard part of the pre-employment security screening process.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and a valid passport are mandatory; candidates with only an EU/non-EU nationality or work visa are ineligible due to project requirements.
