As a Technical Specialist in Vulnerability, you will be integral to engineering, advisory, and developmental tasks focused on specialized subjects within research, design, proposals, and project execution. Your extensive expertise will play a vital role in enhancing and advocating for these fields. You will be recognized for your knowledge and standing in the industry, working alongside a committed team of specialists engaged in R&D projects, proposal development, and engineering tasks, including performance verification during FAT, HAT, and SAT.

Your primary objective will be to enhance the resilience of naval vessels through intelligent system design and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies aimed at improving survivability against threats. This multidisciplinary position requires close collaboration with colleagues in mechanical and electrical system design, structural design, and other essential disciplines.

In the early design stages, you will perform trade-off studies to determine the best system layout. Throughout the engineering phase, you will analyze the vessel’s resilience to guide decision-making and mitigate risks. Additionally, you will oversee design control activities during the detailed engineering phase and identify innovative technological solutions by drawing on both practical experience and academic knowledge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Contributing to the Research & Development, Proposals, and Engineering departments by developing, reviewing, and advising on deliverables such as aspect management plans, analysis reports, calculations, simulations, technical specifications, and test/validation protocols for complex projects.

  • Supporting verification and validation tests and trials during the production support phase or as part of research initiatives.

  • Actively engaging in the advancement of your area of expertise and disseminating findings across relevant projects.

  • Participating in design reviews and delivering high-quality engineering outputs within set timelines, quality standards, and budget limits.

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant requirements and specifications.

  • Contributing to the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of processes, tools, and the knowledge development, transfer, and retention within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.

  • Expertise in specialized technical areas such as system design, vulnerability reduction concepts, or signature reduction strategies for naval vessels and offshore installations.

  • Experience in vulnerability reduction, system design, and complex project environments is an advantage.

  • Strong communication skills, with a history of collaboration with research institutions, universities, engineers, and project and tender managers in naval shipbuilding or a related sector.

  • Proficiency in both Dutch and English, written and verbal.

  • Excellent references, as security screening will be part of the hiring process.
