Technical Specialist Propulsion Systems

In this role, you will serve as a specialist in propulsion and auxiliary systems, contributing to advanced maritime research, engineering, and proposal activities. Your expertise will support the design and optimization of mechanical and propulsion systems used in naval applications. From concept development to validation, you will assess performance, conduct simulations, and guide design improvements to achieve reliable and efficient vessel operation.

Main Responsibilities

Your key tasks will include:

• Acting as a subject matter expert in propulsion and mechanical systems for research and engineering projects.

• Carrying out system simulations and analytical studies to support design choices and reduce technical risks.

• Assisting in validation activities such as factory and sea trials to confirm performance and compliance.

• Delivering accurate and timely technical input for engineering reports, design reviews, and development plans.

• Ensuring that all deliverables meet internal standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.

• Contributing to continuous improvement by sharing insights and developing new tools or methodologies in your domain.
  

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a professional who meets most of the following criteria:

• A Bachelor’s degree with approximately seven years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with around five years in a technical or engineering field.

• Proven experience with propulsion, mechanical, or auxiliary systems for ships or comparable heavy industrial equipment.

• Understanding of dynamic system behavior and control concepts within marine environments.

• Familiarity with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or similar platforms.

• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on complex engineering or research projects.

• Academic or R&D exposure involving development or validation of new technical methods is a strong plus.

• Strong written and spoken communication skills in both English and Dutch.

• Must possess EU citizenship and an EU passport, as required for participation in defense-related projects.
