In the role of Team Lead for Automation, you will oversee the engineering automation aspects within naval shipbuilding projects. Your involvement will begin in the proposal phase, where you'll establish a robust work breakdown structure and planning framework for all relevant tasks in the discipline. You will also lead a team of (Senior) Automation Engineers throughout the project's execution, ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering output. As the Team Lead, you will be accountable for meeting quality standards, ensuring timely deliveries, and reporting directly to the Project Manager of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities as Team Lead for Automation will include:

  • Leading a small to mid-sized team in Electrical & Automation engineering.

  • Coaching team members to maintain compliance with internal standards.

  • Developing work breakdown structures and managing budgets.

  • Delivering high-quality engineering outputs to the Project Manager Engineering punctually.

  • Managing vendors and subcontractors to ensure their contributions align with project timelines.

  • Organizing design checks and reviews to uphold quality assurance.

  • Verifying the technical performance of vendors and subcontractors.

  • Conducting technical analyses of offers in collaboration with the Purchasing department.

  • Monitoring and controlling man-hour budgets while reporting on progress.

  • Coordinating technical support or commissioning activities.

  • Ensuring adherence to all classification and customer requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

To succeed as Team Lead for Automation, you should have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Over 5 years of experience in designing complex electrical and automation systems within the shipbuilding, offshore, or maritime industries.

  • Proven experience in large, intricate project environments.

  • Leadership experience managing engineering teams of up to 10 individuals.

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Technical Automation, or a related field.

  • Project Management experience with a track record of completing work packages within deadlines.

  • Familiarity with class-regulated products and Good Engineering Practices.

  • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken); proficiency in German is an advantage.

  • Strong references; pre-employment security screening is mandatory.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport. Candidates with only an EU work visa or dual nationality (EU and non-EU) are not eligible due to the military nature of the projects.
