Technical Specification Engineer (Interim)

Job description

In this temporary role, you will play a crucial part in the engineering process by preparing essential deliverables such as specification documents, supplier documentation reviews, functional descriptions, schematic diagrams, and test and validation plans. From initial proposal to final delivery, you will be engaged throughout the entire marine engineering cycle. Additionally, you will apply both technical and practical expertise to the design process and ensure accurate documentation within the PDM system.

Key Responsibilities

Your main tasks will include:

  • Developing technical and functional specifications for suppliers and subcontractors based on customer and design requirements.

  • Conducting technical assessments of supplier quotations in collaboration with the purchasing department.

  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements set by customers and regulatory bodies.

  • Leading technical discussions to establish comparable levels of compliance among different suppliers, laying a strong foundation for commercial negotiations.

  • Reviewing and acquiring supplier documentation, including mechanical drawings, schematics, calculations, and electrical diagrams.

  • Coordinating the integration of components and systems into vessel designs in close collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, regulatory authorities, and clients.

  • Maintaining and updating the engineering database, including purchase orders, parts, metadata, and documentation.

  • Performing technical calculations to validate the design.

  • Preparing specification documents, such as System Description Statements, HAT and SAT procedures.

  • Evaluating technical performance by conducting inspections at supplier facilities and overseeing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).

  • Providing technical support during commissioning activities.

  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Participating in design checks and reviews to uphold quality standards.

Required Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

  • At least three years of experience in mechanical or marine engineering, including working with regulatory bodies.

  • Expertise in mechanical systems, ideally in maritime, offshore, or industrial settings.

  • Ability to manage third-party vendors and subcontractors effectively.

  • Proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.

  • Strong professional references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport. Candidates requiring a work visa or holding a non-EU nationality do not meet eligibility criteria due to the military nature of the projects.
