Functieomschrijving

In this senior structural engineering position, you will be responsible for shaping the structural design of complex naval vessels from the earliest concepts through the detailed engineering phase. You will independently handle advanced structural tasks, mentor colleagues, and help ensure that the ship’s structural components comply with strict requirements for durability, safety, construction feasibility, and maintainability.

You will work extensively with modern 3D and 2D design and PLM systems to build detailed structural models, create construction documentation, and develop sections, foundations, and deck arrangements. Collaboration with analysts and specialists from multiple engineering disciplines is a key part of the role, ensuring that all structural solutions are technically sound and properly integrated into the overall ship design.

Vereisten

Main Responsibilities

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Produce detailed 3D structural designs, including plans, sectional drawings, foundations, and deck layouts.

  • Carry out and coordinate structural engineering work within 2D/3D PLM environments (such as 3DExperience), ensuring delivery within time, quality, and budget targets.

  • Take ownership of complex project segments and oversee external engineering work when it is subcontracted.

  • Provide guidance to team members, contribute to knowledge development, and support internal competence building.

  • Address technical challenges by offering solutions, recommending enhancements, and participating actively in multidisciplinary design sessions.

  • Verify that all designs follow applicable naval, commercial, and class regulations.

  • Support the improvement of project standards, yard guidelines, and internal engineering processes.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for professionals who can bring the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and at least five years of relevant experience.

  • Solid background in structural engineering, preferably with experience in shipbuilding or offshore structures.

  • Proficiency in 2D/3D engineering and PLM tools, ideally 3DX.

  • Demonstrated capability to work on technically challenging projects involving multiple external partners and regulatory bodies.

  • A history of delivering accurate, high-quality engineering work.

  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.

  • Excellent professional references, as the role includes a formal security screening.

  • Full EU citizenship and an EU passport. Due to project restrictions, applicants with work visas or dual EU/non-EU citizenship or passports cannot be considered.
