Functieomschrijving

We are seeking a Naval Architect – Weight Control & Hydrostatics to contribute expertise in vessel stability, performance, and safety across all phases of complex engineering projects. In this role, you will support both proposal and engineering teams with specialized knowledge in weight management and hydrostatic analysis, ensuring that designs meet defined stability and performance standards throughout development and production.

Your work will involve carrying out and reviewing design calculations, building and validating hydrostatic models, and monitoring compliance with weight budgets. You will also oversee inclining experiments and liaise with clients, classification authorities, subcontractors, and shipyards. Beyond technical contributions, you will play a role in shaping and advancing the field of weight control and hydrostatics within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as a subject matter expert during proposal and design phases, developing and reviewing technical solutions for complex projects.

  • Preparing and validating deliverables such as analysis reports, technical specifications, models, calculations, and test procedures.

  • Performing and updating weight analyses across all ship systems, using the latest available data, and constructing hydrostatic models for stability assessments.

  • Contributing to design reviews to ensure technical quality, compliance, and innovation.

  • Ensuring alignment with all relevant requirements, rules, and standards.

  • Supporting validation during the build phase, including execution and supervision of inclining tests.

  • Delivering high-quality technical work within set time, budget, and quality parameters.

  • Supporting the development of methodologies, tools, and processes within the weight control and hydrostatics domain.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who bring:

  • Strong knowledge of general ship design principles and ship systems.

  • A theoretical background in hydrostatics, including both intact and damage stability, as well as longitudinal strength.

  • Experience working on large-scale, technically complex projects, preferably in shipbuilding or a related industry.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineering colleagues, project managers, and tender teams.

  • Familiarity with PDM tools and hydrostatic calculation software; basic programming ability is considered an asset.

  • Proficiency in English and Dutch, both spoken and written.

  • Positive references, with a formal security screening as part of the hiring process.

  • Exclusive EU citizenship and possession of an EU passport (due to project requirements, candidates with visas, dual nationality, or non-EU citizenship cannot be considered).
