Job description

Position Overview
As a Technical Specialist Ergonomics, you will be responsible for integrating Human Factors Engineering (HFE) principles into the design and optimization of naval systems and training environments. Your focus will be on enhancing the interaction between humans and technology, ensuring safety, usability, performance, and comfort onboard.

You’ll work across various domains of ergonomics — physical, cognitive, organizational, and linguistic. In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, project leads, and suppliers to embed ergonomic considerations throughout the entire project lifecycle. Your insights will directly improve the experience and effectiveness of operators using these systems.

Job requirements

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HFE plans tailored to project requirements.

  • Perform ergonomic assessments of shipboard systems and human-machine interaction.

  • Conduct task-based analyses and translate findings into technical design requirements.

  • Apply Leitmerkmal methods and create Ergonomic Assessment Reports.

  • Advise on equipment and workspace layout to reduce workload and improve operational efficiency.

  • Support the integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment with emphasis on usability.

  • Enhance human-machine interfaces, particularly in operational and informational environments.

  • Ensure ergonomic compliance by working closely with various departments throughout the project phases.

Your Profile

  • A relevant bachelor's degree and experience working on large-scale engineering projects (preferably maritime or defense-related).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent communication skills.

  • Knowledge of hazard assessments and ergonomic regulations, ideally within German standards.

  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, SAP, IBM DOORS, and 3DX.

  • Prior experience in shipbuilding or the maritime industry is a plus.

  • Fluency in both German and English, spoken and written.

  • Willingness to travel internationally.

  • Possession of permanent EU citizenship and passport. Due to the military nature of the projects, candidates without full EU nationality or with temporary work permits are not eligible.
