Job description

As the Shock & Noise Specialist, you will play a crucial role during the engineering phase by focusing on design elements related to shock from mines and torpedoes, underwater noise, sonar self-noise, and inboard noise. Your responsibilities will include designing the ship structure and the mounting of system components, ensuring they meet the specified requirements. This design process will involve analyzing natural frequencies, displacements, and accelerations of components and skids, as well as selecting appropriate flexible mountings.

In the proposal phase, you will be responsible for defining and negotiating relevant requirements, standards, and norms. Your role will require regular interaction with structural engineers, suppliers, and customers in addition to performing design calculations. During the production phase, you will oversee full-scale testing and validation activities onboard.

You will also contribute to research and development projects related to the creation of new products or processes, which may involve conducting verifications and validations.

Job requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in the design aspects concerning shock (from mines and torpedoes), underwater noise, sonar self-noise, and inboard noise during the engineering phase. Design the ship structure and mounting of system components while considering joint requirements, including analyzing natural frequencies and displacements of components and skids.

  • Define and negotiate relevant requirements, standards, and norms during the proposal phase. Maintain frequent communication with structural engineers, suppliers, and customers while performing design calculations.

  • Participate in full-scale testing and validation during the production phase.

  • Support R&D initiatives in the field, which may encompass verifications and validations, software, product, and process development.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Knowledge and experience in (underwater) shock, particularly concerning inboard and underwater noise on ships.

  • Familiarity with the design of flexible mountings and inboard noise calculations.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (6-DOF, FEMAP, ANSYS) and international standards (STANAG, IMO, Class).

  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are required. Candidates holding an EU (work) visa or having dual nationality (EU and non-EU) are not eligible due to the military nature of our projects.
